What is PLA??
PLA stands for Polylactic Acid (also known as Polylactide). PLA is produced by Natureworks, LLC. It is derived from corn sugar or dextrose that comes from plants with starch. The dextrose is fermented and distilled into lactic acid. The lactic acid is then transformed into plastic-like resin called PLA, which can be used in conventional plastic machines. PLA is made from renewable resources and can be commercially composted.
What is Ingeo?
Ingeo™ biopolymer is the brand name of NatureWorks’ polymers that are used for a wide range of packaging and consumer goods applications. Ingeo™ fiber is NatureWorks’ brand name for fibers made from Ingeo biopolymer.
Are PLA products recyclable?
No. PLA products are made from renewable resources and are fiully commercially compostable.
What about PLA lined paper cups? Are they recyclable too?
